I’d have to say that I like the look of the ’03 Marauder – remind me a lot of the when Chevy brought back the Impala, the look similar.
Maybe lowered a smidgen, and some wider tires (low profile?…maybe) and a little tuning (you know there’s more HP to be dragged out of that V8 – it would be an awesome ride!!!

September 30th,…was the… anniversary of the sad day James Dean died. 60 years have passed, and now there are rumors that the exact car, a Porsche 550 chassis 055, might be not so lost after all.
If anyone is not up to speed on what happened, James Dean was driving his Porsche 550 on his way to Salinas, California for a race. Near Cholame, California, on a stretch of highway, Dean was involved in a head on crash with a Ford Tudor. The Porsche was totaled, and Dean was pronounced dead.
It was tragic, but instead of only focusing on the negativity surrounding the situation, the crash became the centerpiece for a safe driving program across the country. His 550 was toured around, but strange events cast a dark shadow over the car.
People who came in close contact with the 550 experienced a string of bad luck. Many were involved car wrecks themselves, and some also suffered the same fate as Dean.
During the early 60’s the 550 actually disappeared. Somehow it vanished during transportation from Florida to California, until now.Volo Auto Museum is a good friend of My Classic Garage, and also the possible next owner of the highly sought after Porsche 550. The whole situation is still unfolding, but here’s what we know. During 2005 Volo offered a million dollar reward for the whereabouts of James Dean’s 550. After the television show ‘Brad Meltzer’s Lost History,’ which aired in 2014, a man contacted Volo Auto Museum with the claim that he knew where the car was. His tale is crazy, and sounds like the plot to a box office hit, but after a polygraph test his story was confirmed. He was 6 years old and present as his father and some other men put the cursed 550 Spyder behind a false wall in an undisclosed building somewhere in Washington. We have a lot of questions about all of this, but we really hope the rumors are true. This is still coming together. As details are released we’ll keep you updated.

The Dodge Charger Hellcat’s rise to the top of the sport sedan segment shouldn’t come as a surprise. Though many were shocked when Dodge had the audacity to build a 707-horsepower grocery-getter, the American automaker has a long-history of catching the automotive industry off guard.
Though few still remember the legend, the Hellcat isn’t the first time Dodge shockingly overthrew Germany’s finest to become king of the sport sedan segment. BMW, Mercedes, and Audi were unquestionably the gold standard of tire-scorching, corner-carving four-doors. Automobile reports that the 2017 Porsche 911 Carrera and Carrera S get Turbocharged!!!
That’s the 3.0 liter flat six engine. The twin turbo will produce 379 hp w/ 331 lb-ft fo torque in the Carrera and Carrera S will have 420 hp with 368 lb-ft. That is 20 more horses the current 3.8 liter produces for Porsches.

Legendary SoCal hot rodder, racer and all-around Corvette maestro Dick Guldstrand passed away on September 2 at age 87. A few years back, we featured Dick in our Hot Rod Hero column for Hemmings Muscle Machines. In fact, I had the opportunity to speak with Dick on the day he was celebrating his 84th birthday. Continuing on with the leaks and Pertronix install on the 351C, below you’ll see the cleaned up valve covers (BTW – only the right side was leaking – which may explain the gunked up spark plug).
As I was cleaning up the valve cover gaskets and notices a couple more issue that need addressing.

Finally we get to the main event for this past weekend wrenching, the install of the Pertronix Ignition system. (Yeah…I didn’t think I’d get here either.)
This a relatively easy install, unless you are me!!!! You’ll see in the video – it really wasn’t related to the Pertronix.

As I posted before, after a vigorous (not read ‘desperate’) I finally found my next personal project. The 1973 Mustang Sports Roof Fastback is what I settled on.
There is a quick walk-through of the 351C tucked between the fenders of the 1973 Mustang Sportsroof.
(It took about 5 takes to get this video…a slight improvement over the earlier attempts.)
As you can see there’s work to be done. Below is a quick video on the cap/rotor/points and condenser.
While taking a look at the plugs, I discovered a good use for Rewards Cards.
There you have a quick overview and a little insight in to what needs to be done. I think I’ve talked my self in to keeping the 351C, even though it’s not original to the car and a year older, I just like the idea of a period 351C – yup a re-manufactured is a an option, but let’s see what this is looks like first. Your thoughts?

As I posted before, after a vigorous (not read ‘desperate’) I finally found my next personal project. The 1973 Mustang Sports Roof Fastback is what I settled on. Now we start the project that has been dubbed #ProjectSportsRoof (yes I find it necessary to use the ‘hash’).

I run my car projects much like I run my IT projects. You always have to know where to start and know the end game and the key to that is knowing what you are starting with. As with any project that isn’t being built from scratch, in other word, you have to work with what you’ve got, the final goals may change based on what you start out with and/or find later. To help reduce the surprises, there will always be something that pops up unexpectedly, it’s a good idea to begin with an inventory of what we have and what is needed and a logical starting point. We (as in me and you the reader) are at the beginning of the project.
Coming up next are the a few videos (maybe on only three, never sure, since the camera guy and I are one in the same) will be my first inspection.
