April 16th, 1908 – Oakland car company sold it’s first car. Oakland was formed in 1907 by Edward M. Murphy. He was originally a buggy maker and then sold a 4 cylinder car designed by Alanson P. Brush. It was a 4 cylinder car.
I believe they actually began producing cars in 1907.
The mother of all debuts, the Ford Mustang was on April 17, 1964. Little did any one know what a success that little car would be. There were 3 engine available for the 64 1/2 Mustang, the 170 inline 6 cylinder, the 260 V8 and the 289 V8. There were 97, 705 hard tops produced and 28,883 convertibles.

April 17, 1969 another Ford debut the Ford Maverick. Just 5 years the Mustangs release Ford tried again to capture the magic my debuting the Maverick. The Maverick was offered only in two door platform on a Falcon chassis and sported only one engine, the 170 cid. That engine was called the Falcon 6 cylinder with produced about 100 hp. Over 127k were produced in the first year.
1969 Maverick Clay moc-ups. I think the top model would have been a great look. Although it did look a bit like the Mustang
Lincoln becomes a separate division of Ford in 1955 on April 18th. It came in a Custom and Capri series. It took the form of 2dr, 4dr and convertible. Believe it, or not the 4415 lbs car was considered “Sport” model.

18 April 1964 Sunbeam debuts the iconic Tiger. The Sunbeam Tiger a collectible car. It only came in a convertible with 260 V8.
Referred to Sunbeam Tiger MKII or Series I
On April 22nd back in 1954 Hudson and Nash merged to from American Motors Corporation (AMC). This would mark one of the last independent auto makers and brought us such coolness as the Marlin, AMX, Javelin, Rebel and don’t forget the Pacer and Gremlin. Here are two examples of the AMX from a local car show here in

We were aware of the Grand Opening for this new building but we weren’t there’d be a car show. Here a few of the cars that showed.

Thanks to my wonderful wife who didn’t mind an interruption in our errands to spend a few minutes at this show.
Coming up more on #ProjectSportsRoof and #ProjectBeepBeep and keep an eye out for our first Facebook Live event.
It’s always cool to catch a car show when you are traveling.
This past week (Super Bowl Sunday) while visiting family in Alpharetta, Ga, (just outside of Atlanta) I got the chance to ride into the ‘big’ city and take in the event – Thanks Brian!!
There often more than 1500 cars on the first Sunday of every month and even though it was cold and damp (and it being Super Bowl Sunday and the home town team was playing) there were a lot of cars!!!
We got there as it was starting to break up but there were still a lot of cars. Here’s a few pics.
Take a look at this awesome creation. Built on a C4 Corvette body to best look like a 1957 Chevy!
Check out this Nissan!!! It’s power plant is in the next pic.
Nice straight six!!!!
Nice custom ride!!
Here is a great look for a Road Runner.
No one standing around new anything about the car.
I wasn’t even able to scratch the surface. There were rows of Mustangs and Corvettes, long with 100’s of European and Japanese high-end rides and not all of them ‘stock’.
Welcome back to our recent trip to Barrett Jackson Classic Car Auction 2017 in Scottsdale, AZ. Keep in mind these videos were part of the our Facebook Live event and I’m sharing them here on our blog. Quality is ‘iffy’ in spots but if you’ve never been to some this huge it’s cool to see some of the areas that the TV coverage doesn’t always show.
This next video is more of the staging area and a look at a few of the cars coming up. You’ll see the ’69 Road Runner that appeared in Hemming Muscle Machines publication, it is as nice in persons as it was on pages of the magazine.
This video is at the Hillbank display. These are beautiful cars and the all aluminum bodies are awesome to see. The Daytona coups are built on CSX 9000 chassis (the originals were built on CSX 2000 chassis). They have the 427 Cobra engine and the 427 S/C. You can find out more at WWW.HILLBANKUSA.COM .
Thanks for reading. A few more videos coming that include an impromptu conversation with one of the sellers and one of the guys working to get the cars up on the stage.

It is always cool attend a car auction but Barrett-Jackson events are top-notch!!!
For this trip I attempted to use Facebook Live as a platform and I can report that it worked, however video format showed up ‘sideways’ for many of the post, my android failed to compensate for wide-angle shots. I pulled down most of the videos and edited them to make it a bit easier to view.
Here is the first video in that series:
Hot Wheels!!!
Awesome looking van. One lady said “It just needs the plastic package!”

I love this time of year here in Arizona. Not just because you can work on your classic/muscle car in the garage without feeling like a Christmas turkey in the oven. I love this time of year because it’s Car Auction Season! For the next 3-4 weeks classic cars (and others) are bountiful between Tucson, AZ and Phoenix, AZ.
With Barrett Jackson Car Auction kicking off this week and RM, Russo and Steel auctions following up, beautiful cars are brought out in to the cool winter sunlight and driven or set on display. Now, I’m not just talking about at the auctions themselves. But I’m talking about the little known phenomenon that occurs in and around the area.
We have a tradition were we will spend some time driving round Scottsdale and Fountain Hills and other little sections of the greater Phoenix area and looking for the displays of cool classic, muscle, antique cars. The owners have push these beauties out of their warm protective garages, out into the cool winter air. Everywhere you drive, sitting next to the curbs or at the edge of the driveways are some of the most prized, collectible and unique cars south of Payson, AZ.
Some of these are for sale, owners hope to catch the eye of disappointed bidder on his way home or get noticed a buyer that doesn’t really want to ponying up baskets full of old presidents to just participate in the auctions, but still suffering from the ‘classic/muscle/antique car flu that is epidemic this time of year. Others just what to show off their well-loved works of metal art and have a discussion about it with passer-byes.
It is a great time! We’ll be head there to spend couple days attending the events at Barrett Jackson and we’ll take the time to drive around the area and I’ll grab a few shots of the local car eye candy and post them up. If you are headed up drop me a note, I’ve met a few readers at such events, that’s always cool.
BTW – Don’t forget some of the best view is in the parking lot at the these events – snap some shots and post them up on my Facebook page www.facebook.com/AGCarRestoration .

I just have to add one more sleeper car slated to be auctioned off in Scottsdale this week. You might be surprised at this little gem.
Since you know by the title that it’s a Pontiac (or is it?) let me show you a badge on the car to give you a hint. Don’t scroll all the way down yet!!
Hey it’s a Pontiac Sports Deluxe? Not exactly!!
It is a 1967 Pontiac Beaumont!
Looks like a plain Jane Pontiac from the backside!!
It’s got a V8!!
Love the side vents!!!
The Beaumont was a GM based Canadian car sold at Pontiac-Buick dealerships in Canada. Through out it’s production years of 1962 – 1969 it was based on a the Chevelle, the Chevy II and the Nova, all at different point on it’s time line. The Sports Deluxe (SD) was in fact the same trim level as the Chevy Chevelle SS – hence the engine option below.
This one is restored to original, including paint color and it has date-code-correct 396 engine tweaked a bit to produce 375 HP.
Now that’s a sleeper!!!!!
Should be crossing the auction block on Thursday 1/28.
As usual I don’t think anyone will be disappointed with the lineup of cars for this years Barrette-Jackson Auctions in Scottsdale, AZ.
I spent the entire day looking over the offering and even with other auctions running just before, during and just after, you are going to see some great auction fun!!!
One of my favorites of course are the Mustangs and there are plenty there!!! That being said, I did not see a single 71-73 Mustang in the tents – but I do see at least one in the catalog. But you have to love what was on display in one corner of this massive complex.
