#ProjectSportsRoof New Leaf Spring Install Part I

In the last post I prepped #ProjectSportsRoof  bolts and nuts for removal.  I treated them twice a day for two days (sprayed with Liquid Wrench) in hopes they would be easier.

This post, I’m removing and install the new leaf springs.    Pay attention to a couple of safety tips in the video.

Next up a test drive to see how the new springs preform.

Thanks for check in.

A job well done, but a few comments:
    1) Jacking up the rear while the shock plates, hanger, and shackles are attached is ‘NOT REDUCING PRESSURE’. Actually the opposite is happening in that you are placing mechanical energy INTO the spring. This DANGEROUS. If the spring was just hanging without the jack it has no mechanical energy applied; it’s just a curved piece of metal.
    2) Once your spring has no energy, it is time to remove the shock plates. No energy in the spring, so no pressure anywhere, and the shock plates will come off.
    3) The proceed to the shackles. These should not be too bad as they are only torqued to 30 ft lbs, but rust could be the issue against a easy removal.
    4) Front eye bolt is a night mare, but you got it and I’m impressed. These are torqued to 110 ft lbs and on Beep Beep, I decided to leave the eye bolt in and just replace the front hanger instead.
Don’t over torque anything except the eye bolt. Most torque specs are 30 ft lbs for the shackles and shock plates.
    Good Job!

Let me hear from you!!! Drop a note!!
