I guess Chrysler….or…um Fiat…can’t seem to generate enough interest in the new Viper selling only 91 cars so far this year. Nor did they sell that great last year only 591 went to new homes.
Chrysler laid of about 90 employees recently at SRT and now the Viper assembly plant is closed until June.
Maybe they can’t compete with…..well you know…..
Thanks for reading.

A source in the supplier industry tells Autoline Daily that the Viper assembly plant will be shut down for 15 weeks. Chrysler says it will be shut for 11 weeks starting the week of April 14. The plant was originally going to shut for …
Jim Pampinella – I’d love a Viper, but it is a niche car that fits a certain type of car enthusiast and there isn’t a lot of them. In that price range I would be looking a Porsche. For the average person looking for a performance sports car the corvette is a far more practical car. While I like the Viper, my money is better spent buying a Corvette. Show me another 2 seater sports car that with a 400+ HP, gets better than 20 MPG, can fit two sets of golf clubs, a couple of overnight bags, plus a case of wine or two and I’ll buy it.
John F Comeau Wow Tim, those numbers are awesome for the Vette! It is a beautiful car and and I believe its a redesign for this year.
Chrysler does need to something for sure, maybe a redesign? Maybe offer a smaller yet powerful motor to compete? Not sure, maybe offer that I think its a 6.1L Hemi in it, I think all they offer is the beast of a V-10.
This is an example of a car that loses its DNA and the public knows it. The VIPER is no longer a modern COBRA, but rather a Ferrari/Maserati with a different body and V10 engine. The original formula of a large engine roadster with just the bare minimum of components to make it street legal is gone from the VIPER recipe. The people that bought VIPERs were people that wanted a COBRA for the modern times. Unfortunately, the MBAs at FIAT think that a re-bodied Ferrari can actually compete with a Corvette, and now they need to just kill the VIPER and try to sell overpriced, overrated Ferrari’s instead.
General Motors released the latest monthly sales figures late afternoon yesterday. For March 2014, Corvette sales were booming with a total of 3,480 Corvettes delivered for the month. That was a 230.5% increase over the same time last year which saw just 1,053 Corvettes sold in March 2013. March 2014′s deliveries were 42.7% higher than the 2,438 deliveries in February 2014.
For the Calendar Year (January-March) 8,179 Corvettes were reported sold vs 2,941 in 2013 for an increase of 178.1%.
John F Comeau – What are the numbers for the Corvette for this year? I wonder what the price comparison is? Engines available on each and finally what’s the test results ( if they’ve been done) to compare the two.
I’ll never have either one but if I could I sure would love it. I’d shop both of them, the Corvette has the heritage for sure. Chrysler as far as I’m concerned is still an American car. I have a soft spot in my heart ( because my dad did) for Mopar. I also love the Chevy hot rods. I’d love to find my old 66 Chevelle one day.
