Virgil Exner was born on the 24th of Sept in 1909. Who was “Ex”? A car designer. Oh…ok…of what? Just a couple of designs, like all of these:

Bill France was born on the 26th in 1909 in our nations capital. Mr. France was an American race car driver. He is best known for co-founding and managing NASCAR, a sanctioning body of United States-based stock car racing.
The final debuts was on Sept. 26, 1967 when AMC released the Javelin.

The Javelin (and AMX) were AMCs best kept secrets. The 304 V8 was a design from ‘a clean sheet of paper’, and coupled to a MOPAR sourced TorqueFlite automatic, it was a tried and true ‘sleeper’ muscle car. These cars lead the way for the Trans Am series (displacement under 305 CID) with excellent handling and even good braking for the period.
During the ‘muscle car wars’ of my high school days, I was always impressed with my buddies bone stock 304 V8 Javelin. That car could actually hold it’s own with Mach1s and Z28s of the the 1970s.
Unfortunately, the Javelin was cursed by being an AMC product. If the Javelin had come from one of the big three, it could be like the Mustang, or Challenger of today-a legendary Muscle car.
