One Response to Grapple – SMS Supercars

  1. Mike OCooley says:

bought a 2009 Saleen Challenger from SMS Supercars, and have since had real problems getting them to honor their website claims as well as their warranty. It all began when the car was originally ordered. I received a call in May, 2009 from SMS employee Jonathan Dawson who stated my black 2009 Saleen Challenger had “fallen off the lift” in their shop, allegedly causing a bent frame….. Finding this hard to believe, I asked repeatedly for photos and documentation to verify. They were never sent, leaving me keenly suspicious of what really happened. I’ve asked many times since, including a few weeks ago. Never any response from Steve Saleen or his employees. Nothing. So instead of a black Challenger, I got stuck with Hemi orange. Bait and switch.

Their warranty is SMS’s own 3 year 36,000 mile “Bumper to Bumper, all parts and labor” warranty. Molly Saleen verified this by an email I still have in my possession. They also claimed on their website (http://www.smssupercar…) their cars are “Emission Compliant in all 50 states. My experience has been contrary. My car has NEVER passed the Texas emissions test, therefore cannot legally pass inspection! Despite repeated requests to fix this, I’m still waiting. I’m stuck with a $90,000 car that cannot pass inspection. False advertising.

Their website also makes false claims on engine horsepower. Despite repeated requests for a dyno reading from SMS, they always had excuses why they couldn’t send it. So, I paid to have it checked myself. I found my car to be over 70 horsepower short! None of the employees that were wih SMS in 2009 are employed there any more, so I’m dealing with their current Karl Mahl. His explanation was so ridiculous, filled with such non-sense that I had to end the phone call before I said something unprofessional. Suffice it to say a dyno reading states the facts. And the fact is SMS shorted me over 70 hp. Period. They continue to mislead buyers and potential buyers. Here again, false advertising.

I’m now waiting to see if they’ll re-imburse me $99 for a warranty claim…… SMS is actually dragging their feet on a clearly documented minor repair at my local Dodge dealer. Hide and watch, they’ll fabricate some b.s. story how technically they’re not obligated to pay. We’ll have the answer wthin 2 weeks. We’ll see.

To summarize, if you do business with SMS Supercars be prepared to experience: a) bait and switch tactics, b) false advertising, c) an SMS warranty that is practically worthless. Any good California attorneys inerested in pursuing this legally? I’ll pay 40% to an attorney who can win this case. BUYER BEWARE OF SMS SUPERCARS. It should really be called SMS SUPER DISAPPOINTMENT. Thank you. Mike O’Cooley

I bought a 2009 Saleen Challenger, and have been abandoned by SMS as it relates to their SMS 36,000 mile/3 year “bumper to bumper” warranty. In 2009 their website (http://www.smssup…) clearly stated “Emissions Compliant in all 50 States”. This is absolutely false, as my car will NOT pass the state of Texas emissions test. As a result, I now have a car I cannot drive on any public road. I have called SMS many times and requested a call back. I have also emailed their warranty department numerous times. No response at all. I’m now considering taking legal action. Lemon laws, and abandoning the client.

Furthermore, their website states 500 hp for the naturallly aspirated 5.7L engine, 700 hp for the supercharged version. SMS would never produce a dyno sheet for me, so I paid to have the car dyno’ed twice at my own expense. Both fell significantly short of advertised horsepower, at least 60 hp short. False advertising. Bigtime.

3 weeks after I originally ordered my Challenger, I got a phone call telling me the car had “fallen off the hydraulic lift” resulting in a bent frame. They said they’d have to replace it with a different Challenger and start all over again. Despite several requests for documentation (photos, accident reports, etc) I never received anything to confirm their story. Bait and switch.

So, anyone considering doing business with SMS, think tiwce. Once they have your money, you’ll never hear from them again. SMS Super Disappointment is what it should really be called. Thank you.
